Reflection

For our second to last seminar, we started off by going over upcoming dates and events in

regard to graduation and also for the capstone project. We started off the class by hearing

Cejamil Calderon present his capstone project. The capstone is something that we have been

talking about since the beginning of our program. I have been working on mine this semester

while completing my practicum at Sharp. I have started to create my presentation slide and put

together the main points that need to be discussed. It was great hearing CJ’s presentation and

how he went about presenting it.

The second half of the class included a guest speaker from Rady’s children hospital. I

think guest speakers are always helpful and can provide great advice when it comes to starting

out in your career. The guest speaker and I have a similar background, we both went straight

from our undergraduate program to our graduate. One of the challenges I have experienced with

job searching is that I meet the basic qualifications for education and soft skills, however, my

main issue is that I do not have as much experience as others. Hearing how the guest speaker

used different experiences from his school to help get his foot in the door at his first job has

given me some new perspectives when completing an interview with a job. Although I may not

have direct experience in the field I can use experience from other jobs to demonstrate that I can

meet the responsibilities.
