Krumm - Luhr / JR Motorports / Nissan GT-R

A new victory for Motul!

The fifth round of the World FIA GT1 Championship took place last weekend at the Silverstone circuit in England. Following an eventful race marked by many collisions (no less than 6 cars failed to cross the chequered flag owing to accidents), the Nissan GT-R driven by Michael Krumm and Lucas Luhr (team JR Motorsports), for which Motul is a technical partner, won the day brilliantly! This fine performance secured on home turf allows the English team to place its two drivers at the head of the driver standings, 9 points ahead of the duo Piccini / Hohenadel (team Hexis Racing), now placed third in the driver standings after taking a solid fourth at Silverstone. Less luck however for the French teams sister car, as Clivio Piccione and Christian Hohenadel were forced to abandon the race following a collision whereas they were in the top five. As for the three other contending Nissan GT-Rs, the same thing happened to numbers 21 (Sumo Power GT) and 22 (JR Motorports), which collided and unfortunately finished the race on the recovery vehicle. Placed seventh, the Nissan GT-R driven by Hughes / Bernoldi (team Sumo Power GT) escaped, for its part, unscathed. Next race in Navarre, in Spain, on 3 July!

IOM Tourist Trophy / Isle of Man

Guy Martin / Relentless Suzuki by TAS

First podiums for Guy Martin

Its off to a start! The week of the Tourist Trophy, the most legendary road motorcycle race, for which Motul is the official lubricant supplier for the second consecutive year, has indeed started. While the first races were dissimilar in style, on the other hand, the performances by Guy Martin, the famous rider of team Relentless Suzuki by TAS, for which Motul is a technical partner, were extremely regular. Indeed, after securing the third step of the podium on Monday 6 June in Supersport race 1 (four 60 km laps were on the programme, in other words a total of 240 kms and 1056 turns!) at the wheel of his GSX-R 600, Guy Martin pulled off the same performance again a few hours later at the Superstock race. Still at the Superstock race, note should also be taken of the fine sixth place taken by Cameron Donald of team Wilson Craig Racing (also supported technically by Motul). The second rider of Team Relentless Suzuki by TAS, Guillaume Dietrich was making, for his part, his maiden outing at the Tourist Trophy. Nevertheless, after giving himself two dreadful frights during the last qualifier, the French rider who takes part regularly in the French Superbike Championship, quite simply decided to prematurely put an end to his adventure on the Isle of Man. Ive decided to stop before its too late. Im sure to disappoint a lot of people. For once Ill swallow my pride! My respect for TT riders has only grown. Theyre well and truly on another planet he explained to justify his decision. Pending the Pokerstars senior, the major race, Motul riders will be back on the road this Wednesday for Supersport race 2.

OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge

Kartright Speedway & Motul: a partnership crowned with success

Inaugurated in 2009, the Kartright Speedway karting facility located in Singapore opened its doors for the first time to the public on 1 October of the same year (cf. Motul Sport News no. 4). An audacious challenge for the investors which soon proved to be a genuine success. Indeed, in less than 2 years, with the help of a group of partners including Motul, this karting complex has shown the growing enthusiasm for motorsports in the region. No less than 20,000 enthusiasts have already had a go at experiencing the joys of racing during the various rental sessions or else at the various corporate events such as for instance the OCBC Corporate Karting Challenger, the first race of which took place on 28 May this year. Following this fiercely fought 4-hour elimination round, it was Aston Martin Drakar Racing Team which won by crossing the chequered flag after clocking 293 laps, in other words one lap ahead of its closest contender. Like the second, third and fourth-placed teams, the riders of the winning team have won their tickets to the grand final to be held on 15 October in the presence of eight other teams.

David Gaviria & Thomas Puerta / Team LTD racing

LTD Racing, AMA Supersport boss

One week after being the star attraction at the World Superbike at Salt Lake City, the AMA Pro Racing riders were back at the Road America circuit (Wisconsin) for the 4th round of the American Superbike, Supersport and Sportbike Championships. It was in the Supersport category that Motuls colours shone particularly: one of the teams receiving technical support clinched two podiums last weekend! In effect, thanks to its Colombian riders David Gaviria, winner of the Saturday race and Thomas Puerta, third of the Sunday race, LTD Racing YES Yamaha placed its riders at the head of their respective championship (West and East divisions). A situation which allows Gary Medley the highly experienced team manager to even hope for a happy end to the championship if his riders maintain their level of performance and concentration. In Sportbike, Huntley Nash, also contending on a LTD Racing Yamaha R6, is progressing little by little in the standings after placing 13th and then 12th. Goal: the top 10 at the next meeting in Barber in 10 days!

Motul Classic Car Meeting / Nizhny Novgorod

Motul Classic Car Meeting / GAZ GL-1 1938

Motul celebrates the 80 th anniversary of the GAZ make

Located 400 km to the southeast of Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod is the third Russian city after Moscow and Saint Petersburg. It is also the legendary bastion of the Russian car group GAZ set up in 1929 thanks to cooperation between Ford and the Soviet Union. It was therefore natural to organise there the first of a series of events to celebrate the car makers 80th anniversary. Proudly supported by Motul Russia, this meeting grouped at the end of May the makes finest models patiently restored by enthusiasts or major collectors. Among the exhibited models, the legendary GAZ MM truck or else the GAZ-410 and GAZ-23 (fitted with a V8 engine) were of course present. Nevertheless, everyone, cameramen included, were looking at one and the same vehicle: a GAZ GL-1 fresh from the makes restoration workshops after three years of reconstruction made possible using photos and drawings. Launched in 1938, the GAZ GL-1 is indeed the very first Russian sports car. Produced on the base of the GAZ-M1 (itself derived from the Ford V8-40), the GAZ GL-1 could reach 161km/h!

UIM Jet-Ski World Championship / Arbatax

Romain Stampers / Team RaceSpirit

New podiums for the team RaceSpirit

The second round of the UIM Jetski World Championship was held during the weekend of 28 and 29 Mai in Sardinia in the bay of Arbatax. As at the first round that took place in Doha (cf. MSN 10), team JetSpirit, supported technically by Motul, gave an explosive performance by clinching a double win! In the F1 top category, Jeremy Poret put his stamp on the 2011 championship by winning this Italian round and also by strengthening his lead in the overall standings. For her part, Julie Bulteau, who was leading the championship before this second round, had to satisfy herself with a 3rd place following a penalty in a race she led from start to finish. The fine performance of the weekend is to be credited to Romain Stampers who won in Freestyle for the first time of the year in this championship, thanks in particular to figures with maximum amplitude. As for the Run F1 category, note should be made of Franky Zapatas poor performance at the wheel of his MZR: he couldnt fully defend his chances as he was forced to abandon after a mechanical glitch. All these riders will be present for the third round of the UIM World Championship on 4 and 5 June at Ghuisonacce in Corsica.
