BOOK EXTENSION ACTIVITY - LESSON PLAN

7PK.2:listen and respond appropriately to stories and group discussions.

2. Objectives:

SWBAT + Bloom’s verb

Students will be able to identify and describe the different inhabitants that animals live in.

Students will do the forms correctly.

3. Materials/Equipment:

Crayons,

Markers,

index cards.

4. Teaching:
A. Plan for reading the book

B. Plan for extension activity:

1. Teacher will read aloud the book at circle time.

2. On the board, teacher will write the question: Where do animals like to rest? Do animals

need anything to stay safe from predators?

3. Put students’ answers on the board, students will answer “food, shelter, etc.

4. Explain that animals all live in something called a “habitat” which is a natural home for

that animal.

5. Pass out the forms for students to color and complete in group.

6. Ask students to write down the headings of the four habitats on four index cards.

7. Ask students to think of more animals they might see in that habit and draw the animals.

8. Then have them place their drawings under the correct heading.

5. Closure:

Assessment: look at the forms see if they connect the lines btw the animals and the right habitats.

Have students show the animals they have drawn.

Ask questions about the animal and their habitat.

Give positive feedback saying they learned about habitats today and encourage them to go home

and research on their own.

Tell them next week we will learn about climates and how it impacts habitats.
Ticket out of the door: Ask the students where they would be likely to find a Mountain Octopus.
