1. Teacher will read the book in circle time.
2. Introduce the word Biography: ask the students what they think the word means.
Tell the students it is a person’s life written by someone else, a story about someone’s life.
3. Ask students what will usually be in a biography?
Students will say “Birthplaces, family of origin, favorite things, education, career, etc.
4. Have student sit with a partner and tell the partner about their life in detail as they possibly
can. Start with when/where they were born in a minute, then switch.
5. Ask the students the information they shared was fiction or non-fiction.
On the board: write the word Autobiography: tell them Autobiography is about one’s own life.
6. Ask the students to tell the partner all they could remember about their partner’s life story in
details.
5. Closure:
Question: Ask the students was it easier to write about your own life or your partner’s life.
Assess: Go around the classroom and see student’s filling out the form successfully or not.
Ticket out of the door: Ask the students to define biography and autobiography.
Next day: A lesson on memoir.
