CENTER OR MASS, MOMENTUM, AND IMPULSE

Center of Mass

- The point in system in which the total mass is concentrated.

Momentum (p=mv)

- Property of a moving object

- Is a scalar quantity
- Inertia in motion
- The product of mass and velocity.
Example:

 What is the momentum of a 52kg student running at a velocity of 4m/s?

Impulse-Momentum Theorem (Impulse = Force x time duration)

- Impulse produces change in momentum.

- Where: F-force, t-time, mvf-final momentum, mvi-initial momentum

Conservation of Linear Momentum

- In the absence of external force that act on a system, the total linear momentum
in the system will remain constant.
- Momentum loss = Momentum gained
