Dear Larry Brence,

My name is Makell Peterson. I recently graduated from Southern Utah University with a
bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with an emphasis in animal science and industries. I am applying for the
extension agent position. This past summer I interned with the Utah State University extension agency. I
helped plan several activities for the youth. I created many demonstration videos. I did a lot of the
communication through social media with parents and the youth. During this internship I learned how to
work well with others for projects but how to plan and execute activities by myself. I believe that my
communication skills and my ability to adapt to different situations will make me the perfect fit for this
job.
My experience with the summer internship has helped me to understand a small portion of
what this job is about. I was able to help with paperwork and filing. During my time there I was able to
plan different camps for the livestock 4-H kids. At the end of the summer, I put on a small show for just
the kids in our 4-H club. I was able to put the whole thing together. I feel like this gave me a glimpse of
one part of the activities for the youth. I also believe having participated in 4-H growing up has given me
the appreciation it takes to be an extension agent.
I am very excited to have the opportunity to talk with you more about my skills and
qualifications more. I think I can add a lot to the Montana State University extension agency. I will be in
