Essentials for

Plant Growth

Plenty of Sunlight
Used in the process of photosynthesis to
create sugars that will be used as food
Process occurs in chloroplasts using
chlorophyll
Each has their own specific light needs

Proper Amount of Nutrients

3 essential nutrients are:
Nitrogen, Phosphorous
and Potassium
If a plant has too much or
too little plants won't grow
Can adjust with the use of
fertilizers

Air
Using light energy, sugars are created
by absorbing carbon dioxide (CO2)
Oxygen is also needed for cellular
respiration which break down nutrients
when there is no light i.e. at night

Water
Aids in movement of nutrients
from soil into their roots
Too little, plants will wilt
Too much, roots will begin to
rot

Space to grow
This is so they are not all competing
for resources
Roots need to spread out to access
nutrients and water
Leaves need space to access light
