IDEAL ALTITUDE LEVEL / LEVEL FOR COMPETITION

 Altitude Training is Beneficial for Endurance-Sport Athletes since Availability of Oxygen

in the Atmosphere is less compared to sea level adaptations occur through adaptations
in the physiologic systems.

 The higher the altitude, the lower the atmospheric pressure, which makes it harder for
the body to transfer the oxygen into the Blood.

 Researches Indicates that Extreme Altitude( > 4000mts ) training should be avoided
since it has Severe Hypoxic Effects.

 Athletes will also find it difficult to replicate the pace they are able to run at sea level
because of their body’s reduced ability to transport the available oxygen

 Optimal Level of Altitude Training can be between ( 2000-3000mts ) Moderate Altitude

since it has No significant Diminished Performance observed.

 Periodic Improvements in Altitudes in training can be Made once Acclimatization and

Adaptation happens.

 Living High and Training Lower than Living altitude showed greater Improvements in the
Performance at Sea Level.

 Acute Responses to Altitude Training :

 Increases in minute pulmonary Ventilation
 Increases in arterial oxygen Saturation
 A blunted lactate response in exercise

 Acclimatization Period for Altitude training Ranges from 7-14 Days from Initial
Exposure.

 At intermediate altitudes, the air still contains approximately 20.9% of Oxygen but
the Barometric Pressure and thus the Partial Pressure of oxygen is reduced.
