Teaching Recording Self-Assessment Reflection 2

This class period was very interesting and showed many of my strengths and challenges

with teaching. Though I used strategies to maintain focus and uphold class expectations, one of

the primary challenges I had with this class was using strategies effectively. This is certainly an

area for improvement and, upon reflecting, I believe more individual contact, serious tone, and

decisive language would have been beneficial for this class. Another strategy that would help my

future teaching would be creating and developing long term plans for students who repeatedly do

not complete classroom expectations. I believe the inclusion of repetitions was a highlight of the

lesson, allowing students to develop and strengthen their understanding and ability to play

various notes and rhythms. This also helps with the pacing of the class and determining when it

is best to continue working on something or to move on to the next part of the lesson. I believe

my instructions are clear and easy to follow, however there were quite a few instances where

repeating instructions initially would have helped to keep the entire class together. This is also

important to keep in mind as certain students require additional instructions, as often stated in

IEPs or can be determined based on repeated interactions with the student(s). Generally, I believe

that getting through the lesson plan key, it is far more important to keep all students engaged and

learning. Overall, there are many changes I would make to this lesson, however the opportunity

to reflect on the experience is very helpful in developing my skills as a teacher and the many

elements of the job.
