ASSIGNMENT

Out of many festivals mentioned in the references book, select one and tell
something about it. Give your reasons why you select such.

In the festivals mentioned in the references book, I choose Flores de

Mayo. Flores de Mayo is held in every town all around the country. It may not
be as grand as Sinulog, but it is just as important. Flores de Mayo–has also
become a tribute celebration and thanksgiving by farmers in the Spanish era
because of the rains brought about at this time of the month.        It is timely
since stunning flowers bloom during this month. People would gather in
Churches to pray the Rosary and offer flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary.  At
the Holy Mass’ Offertory, more bouquets and baskets of flowers are usually
presented to Mama Mary during this Marian month.  The Churches’ interior is
lavished with floral decorations.  

The reason why I choose Flores de Mayo is because I already joined the
said festival. When I was a kid, every May my grandmother and my twin sister
was always go to church to commemorate the Blessed Virgin Mary. Every day
during that month, I always offered flowers in the altar and sometimes I carried
some letters on the words “FLORES DE MAYO”.
