Supreme Court was of the opinion that in the given case the respondent should be
sentenced one year imprisonment and fine twice the amount of cheque i.e. Rs
3,20,000. However in view of passage of time (15 years since the complaint was
filed) the sentence would stand suspended on payment of further sum of Rs 1,60,000.
