2. How does the account of Santiago Alvarez differ from all other versions?
"Santiago Alvarez" is the general, founder, and honorary president of the Nacionalista party's
first directorate. He is known as "kidlat ng apoy" and the only child of revolutionary general Mariano
Alvarez because of his inflamed bravery and courage as commander in Cavite's famous battles. His
writing became a primary source because he was present at the time, or an eyewitness because he
personally witnessed what happened.

of the Cry of Balintawak?
According to him, the Cry occurred on August 25, 1896 in Balintawak. According to
Guillermo Masangkay, it happened in Kangkong, Balintawak, in the last week of August 1896. How
reliable is Guillermo Masangkay's version of this issue? The Cry of Balintawak was the beginning of
the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Empire. The cry could also refer to the destruction of
community tax certificates in defiance of their allegiance to Spain. The Cry of Pugad Law, also
known as the Cry of Balintawak, signaled the start of the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule.
