Month 4 Assignment: Case Study - Who should work?

Directions: Read the case study below. Answers must be typed in complete sentences with correct spelling, capitalization, punctuation and
grammar. Please be complete in your reflections/thoughts/answers.

Pam and Julie Case Study

Pam and Julie worked at J & J’s Supermarket. Pam has worked there since 2017. Julie has worked there since 2019. Randy, their manager, has a
position open for head cashier making two dollars more an hour. He knows he is expected to give the job to Pam, who has been working there
for more years and is seldom late, even though she is out “sick” frequently. However, Julie—who has fewer years’ experience—is always on
time and is almost never absent.

1. What would you do if you were Randy?


I would give the job to Julie. She is more reliable, punctual and efficient. Even though Pam has worked there
longer she has shown inconsistency to showing up and upholding responsibility. I also wouldn’t want to reward
Pam’s lack of dedication to the job by giving her a raise.
2. How should Julie feel if Pam gets the job?
Julie would probably be confused because she feels she is a better worker. Julie probably feels she deserves this
raise more due to her extensive efforts in the company.

3. How should Pam feel if Julie gets the job?


Pam would also be confused because she feels like she has been with the company longer. Pam would then
reflect and realize that Julie is the more dedicated, timely, punctual worker.

4. What are three goals can Pam set for herself in order to better manage her time at work?
Pam can start using a planner. Pam can also set alarms on her phone reminding her she has work.
Lastly she could learn to say no to the other plans that may have come up causing to “be sick”.
