Doctrine of circumstances
1. Robert Owen was the person who put forward the theory of doctrine of
circumstances.
2. He believed that character of human being is based on the circumstances
which he lives.
3. According to his theory man is neither good nor bad by birth, it is his
circumstance made him good or bad.
4. By changing the surroundings, the character of workers could be changed.
5. He gave great importance on the environment where the workers lived and
worked.

Labour exchange/ labour note
It is a system of payment to workers put forward by Robert Owen. He
believed that the main tool for accumulation of private profit was money.
So he tried to replace money by labor notes. According to this system the
hours of work spend by workers producing each commodity is recorded
and is returned to the labourers instead of money. For purchasing these
notes can be given for commodities of equal value. For this he establisahed
National Equitable labour exchangein the year 1832.
