ESIC Registration – Process, Benefits, Documents Required

ESI stands for Employee State Insurance managed by the Employee State Insurance Corporation which is
an autonomous body created by the law under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of
India.

What are the benefits of ESIC registration?

The benefits of registering under this scheme are varied. Some of them are:

1. Sickness benefits at the rate of 70% (in the form of salary), in case of any certified illness certified and
which lasts for a maximum of 91 days in any year

2. Medical Benefits to an employee and his family members

3. Maternity Benefit to the women who are pregnant (paid leaves)

4. If the death of the employee happens while on work – 90% of the salary is given to his dependents
every month after the death of the employee

5. Same as above in case of disability of the employee

6. Funeral expenses

7. Old age care medical expenses

Who all can be Dependent (Family Particular )

 a spouse dependant upon the insured person;


 a minor legitimate or adopted child dependent upon the insured person;
 a child who is wholly dependent on the earnings of the insured person and who is—
(a) receiving education, till he or she attains the age of twenty-one years,
(b) an unmarried daughter;
 a child who is infirm by reason of any physical or mental abnormality or injury and is wholly
dependant on the earnings of the insured person, so long as the infirmity continues;
 dependant parents
 in case the insured person is unmarried and his or her parents are not alive, a minor brother or
sister wholly dependent upon the earnings of the insured person;]
What are the documents required for ESIC Registration
1. Post Card size photo with family particular as mentioned by you in the form.

As stated above, every worker enrolled under the ESI scheme will be given a magnetic, smart identity
card which is called as a ‘Pehchan card’ or ESI card. This card has to be produced while availing benefits
at the ESI network hospitals or dispensaries.

The Pehchan card bears all the details of the employee including name, father’s name, address, and
insurance number. It also bears the employee's photograph along with his/her dependents photographs
and fingerprints.

Each employee is given 2 sets of cards, one for himself/herself and one for his/her dependents. If the
dependents of the insured person live in another town, they can use their card at ESI hospitals to avail
medical facilities under the ESI scheme.
