Grand Rapids, Michigan 49508 ALERT May 20, 1982 EFFECTIVITY PS-835( ) PCN 25832 COMPLIANCE Mandatory at next repair period or within six months of receipt of this bulletin. COMPONENT Emergency Power Supply SUBJECT Installation of PS-835A Mod 6, PS-835SB Mod 7 and PS-835C and D Mod 1 PURPOSE To provide self test of power supply output as well as battery output to detect possible fuse failure. PARTS REQUIRED A 12 inch piece of 22AWG, black, multistrand wire and 1 MS3368-3-9C tie-down strap. MANHOURS REQUIRED Two manhours are required to perform this modification. INSTRUCTIONS NOTE If the PS-835 Emergency Power Supply is in- stalled in the manner shown in Pigure 1, the system test will not detect whether the PS-835 battery protection fuse has blown. If the battery self test feature is being utilized as a pre-flight check of the PS-835 Emergency Power Supply, the battery protection fuse condition is not checked. In any application of the power supply, where failure to get the 28VDC output in an emergency situation would result in a flight safety hazard, this modification should be installed immediately or addi- tional pre-flight checks should be de- vised to insure that the battery pro- tection fuse is good. & 4 a Service Bulletin SB501-1228-7 In the design configuration setup with an attitude indicator, placing the setup in the emergency mode without the aircraft battery switch on,will cause the indicator power warning flag to retract, proving that the fuse is good. In aircraft required to opera third attitude indicator from a separate power source in accordance with FAR Part 25.1303(b) (4) PAR Part 29.1303(g), FAR Part 91.33 (4) (3) (i) or (ii), FAR Part 121.305(f) or (3), or FAR Part 135.149(c), this test must be used until the modification required by this service bulletin is installed. In other applications (communications, light- ing, etc.) a similar check (removal of air- craft power and operating the equipment from the PS-835 only) should be devised to determine if the fuse is good. After installing this modification, the added checks can be deleted. Refer to figure 2 and remove two screws (3), washers (6), lock washers (5) and nuts (4) from rear of unit and remove unit (2) from case (1). In the following steps, refer to figure 3 unless otherwise indicated. Remove two screws (36) and screw (7) loosening inverter support (11) permitting easier access to Printed Wiring Board (PWB) (22) terminals. Remove two screws (12) loosening support assembly (10) permitting easier routing of wires. Remove two black wires that are connected to PWB (22) terminals at location @}. Use a low wattage soldering iron and solder wick to remove wires. NOTE It may be necessary to_cut tie-down strap (33) and pry battery @) loose from ad- hesive if support assembly (10) freedom is insufficient to permit access to battery terminals. Remove black wire from battery @) negative terminal. Trim sleeving and connect and solder Slack wire removed from in step 4 to battery (3) negative terminal. (This wire comes from fuseholder (17).
