LT230 transfer box. This box will work happily with either Gearoil 30, Hypoid 80W/90 or Auto DX IL. As a rule of thumb, replace with which ever oil is drained from the unit. It is also usual practise to use same oil as specified for main gearbox. Note 2. LT95 and LT85 gearbox. The main box must always have Gearoil 30 (or equivalent) as it is fitted with its own fibre wheel oil pump which will shear if a higher viscosity oil is used and cause the gearbox to fail. However the transfer box does not have a pump, consequently a higher viscosity oil can be used such as Hypoid 80W/90, [Minor Components ‘Manual Steering Box: |[Sieering Box Lube ‘Swivel Joints: Semi Fluid Grease Propshaft Us's and Sliding Joints:|igh Meli Grease Ball Jointse|[Graphite Grease Notes for lubrication recommendations- 1920-1970 CLIMATE Original recommendations used to specify both a summer and winter grade. ‘The Pentit listing is based on climatic conditions up to 25 degrees C. For conditions greater than 25 degrocs Ca heavier oil may be substitute. This may also depend on the condition ofthe engine (Sce Engine). ENGINE Oil recommendations assume engines are in good mechanical condition. For engines that are wor or are suffering from oil consumption problems, a grade heavier than that listed may be used, (Ifa heavier grade is being used, then it may be necessary to re-adjust the oil pressure release valve), For engines that have run on son detergent type ol the Shelsley equivalent ofthe listed grade may be used This oil may also be used in vehicles that have a total los oiling system. Classic 20W/S0 engine oil is available for vehicles of the 1960's and 1970's thet may not necessarily need the high performance characteristics of HPR 20/60, A semi synthetic HPR 15/60 multigrads is available for late model multvalve, multicam, compoter managed engines. For ‘modern classis' requiring a fully synthetic oil use Penite Classi Full Synthetic 10/5. GEAR BOX Gear box oi 30 and 40 are designed for use in manual, overdrive and pre-slector gear boxes, replacing engine oils ‘which were used extensively during the fifties and sixties, «due to peculiarities ofthe gearbox fitted, Modem strength EP (Extreme Pressure) gear oils ate not recommended for gear boxes covering tis period REAR AXLE For vintage vehicles upto the early thirties, straight gear ells of GL type /performance (eg: Transvl 90) are recommended, Climate and wear conditions can determine grade used, From the thirties through to mid 1960, MILD EP is recommended where a GL3 type oil i specified Post 1960 vehicles which cll for an EP9O type gear ol, the Penite equivalent is Hypoid 80w/90 For vehicles subjected to temperatures in excess of 25 degrees C, or that are showing signs of extreme wear, then Hypoid 85/140 may be used as an alternative to Hypoid 80wi90, Use Limslip 85/140 for Limited Slip Differentials STEERING BOX For vintage type steering boxes (worm and wheel use Steering Box Lube. For rack and pinion type steering, use MILD EP. GENERAL Cooling Systems: ‘Use corrosion inhibitor forall year use. May algo be used t enhanee ant-corosion ropes of proprctarysntfreze carb Dashpot: For non-damped SU cars use Carburetor Dash Pot Oil For damped SU cabs use Carburetor Damper Oil Leaf Springs Use a penetrating olor engine oil.
