Kitchen Technique Research Assignment

1. Boiling an Egg

One of the best techniques for boiling an egg include the following steps. First, you obtain the

amount of egg you need. Then, place them on the saucepan carefully to avoid cracks and fill it

with water 1 inch over the eggs (Tasty, 2017). After bringing the water to a full boil and

simmering, you may remove the pot from the heat and let it rest with the lid covered over the pot

for about 15 minutes (https://www.facebook.com/thespruceeats, 2021). Towards the end remove

the boiled eggs from the pot and transfer them to either bowl of cold water or ice for another 10-

15 minutes. Lastly, you may peel and serve those boiled eggs. Furthermore, based on your

preference of eggs from soft to hard-boiled, you can use minutes for estimation. For example,

when you let the eggs rest with the lid covered you may leave them for four to six minutes for

soft-boiled, eight to ten minutes for medium-boiled, twelve to sixteen for hard-boiled eggs

(Tasty, 2017). The preciseness of time and effort will result in the best interest of your taste.

2. Chopping an Onion

Many have their own techniques for chopping onions. The focus will be on chopping them into

cubes. First, you obtain an onion, trim the top end off, peel the outer layer, and cut the onion in

half lengthwise (https://www.facebook.com/thespruceeats, 2021). Then, position the onion on

the cutting board on the flat side. One prefers to keep the root end intact and chop the onion

vertically leaving half-inch of the root end (Real Simple, 2009). After vertical chops of the

onion, you will begin cutting horizontally and witness the root end keeping the onion together

making the chopping process easier for the cook. The closer the vertical and horizontal cuts are

the finer your cube chops of onions will outcome.

3. Using a Chef’s Knife

Chef’s knife can be difficult to utilize to many at the first attempt. In order to ensure safety, some

basic steps must be followed. First, you must have a proper grip on the knife, the index finger

and thumb should be opposite on either side of the blade. Then, you must secure the food as you

are chopping with your other hand also known as the guiding hand. Additionally, as you utilize

your guiding hand to hold the food securely you must grip the food that is called claw grip,

which is your fingers curled inward and gripping the food with fingernails

(https://www.facebook.com/thespruceeats, 2021). When utilizing the knife, you must slice in a

circular motion for safety and comfort. Furthermore, any round shape produces you must square

off meaning slightly cut off the sides for comfort and safety always keep the fingers back

(Howdini, 2015). These steps must be followed to avoid any injuries.
