The poem is written considering the native lifestyle.

The narrator is expressing how she feels like being


at home. On a sunny day as narrator sees the sky, there appears the darkness gradually in shades which
looks like sapphire blue. Narrator is watching her mom picking the red, green, white and black beads
which swirl into saucers as mom picks them to sew. As narrator looks around she sees that her moms
house is filled with hunting stuff of native animals like rabbit and moose skins and there is grey felt on
the floor. The cree garden outside is filled with blooming flowers and berries. Narrator could feel the
smell of her mother’s smoke, She is enjoying listening to the humming “amazing grace” a hymn song by
her mom, who is working on colorful beads sewn using the needle and thread. Mom weaves the beads
work then braids them to her baby girl. Narrator sees that night was filled with stars and beeds, as
narrator falls asleep listening to mothers humming.

Narrator is expressing the love and affections which she is feeling from her mom, the place where she
feels like home, the place where she spent her important and happy times of her life. Narrator is
capturing the personal feeling of home in a unique possible way is expressed in this poem.
