Setup the Configuration File correctly. On the Command Prompt, type
startmvs.

Hercules will start and the configuration file will be read and processed.

Connect two instances of the 3270 Terminal Emulator to the Mainframe(at
localhost).

IPL(Initial Program Load) or power up the Mainframe computer.
Generally, you boot from the MVS Resident Volume. The mvsres DASD
Disk is attached at address 148(in the configuration file). On the  Hercules
console(command-prompt), type IPL 148.

Look at the first 3270 Terminal Session, the Master Console. It asks you,

To which you reply,

R 00,CLPA

If this is the first time you are Creating the Link Pack Area(CLPA) and
Spool, the following messages may be displayed -

You reply to this Message numbered #00, with Yes(Y). Type the following on
the screen.

 R 00,Y

JES2 refuses to start nevertheless. This is because JES2 automatically starts
during warm-start, but its not appropriate when you have just built
the spool and taken a Checkpoint. The following screen shows up.

Okay, then you can start JES2 like this.

S JES2

You are then asked to enter the options.

To which, you reply -

R 01,FORMAT,NOREQ
JES2 now continues with the startup. You should receive a couple of more
messages to which, you reply R 02,Y and R 03,Y. When the dust settles
down, look at the second 3270 Terminal session. MVS is ready and you can
login now.

It would be great if you can explain how to boot up MVS and to code COBOL program in a simpler way.

Thanks in advance.
