Intro: Last week we studied about the salvation of Apostle Paul and the very purpose of why God saves him in-spite hat he persecuted the church of God. And from that lesson we learn that our own salvation is a work of God through His Son Jesus Christ by His grace for the sake of others and for His glory. Tonight we will be going to look on some particular blessing experience that we have as a child of God.
A. THE SPIRIT OF JESUS WAS GIVEN TO US (v.6)
The reason why God sent forth the Spirit of Jesus to us; (1) To confirm to us our adoption as God’s children. It is the Holy Spirit’s work to confirm to us believers our adoption as God’s children. After our regeneration (that is when we become born again) God place us into His family as adult sons. (2) To confirm our salvation. Assurance of salvation is gracious work of the Holy Spirit it is not come from any human source.
B. WE HAVE THA SAME NATURE AS THE FATHER (.7)
Upon believing in Jesus Christ we become the sons of God, that is; (1) accepted of Him (2) adopted by Him Then the Holy Spirit come to live within us; and this means we are “partakers of the divine (godly) nature.” (2 Tim. 1:14) “This tabernacle must be put off. We are not to continue to live with the desires of this earthly house” as Jesus showed it to us. All believers must understand this truth while experiencing this spiritual blessing that he has from God. So when the believer goes back into sinning, he is denying the very divine nature within him, and he is giving the old nature (the flesh) opportunity to go to work.
C. WE ARE ENTITLED TO HEAVENLY INHERITANCE (V.7)
Being the sons, we are also heirs of God and are entitled to heavenly inheritance. This is the great privilege which believers have through Christ that they are adopted children of God in heaven. We who by nature are children of wrath and disobedience have become, by grace children of love.
D. FREEDOM TO TALK TO GOD THE FATHER (V.6b)
(Heb. 4:6) Most people in higher position were un approachable by anyone except their highest advisers. In contrast the Holy Spirit calls us to come confidently before god’s throne in prayer and personal fellowship with our loving heavenly Father. This is one of our blessing through the blood of Jesus Christ. We have boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus. He is our advocate and he pleads for His people; He pleads with the price in His hand by which he purchased that all our souls want or can desire. It is our duty and interest to be often found ourselves before this throne of grace, waiting on the Lord in all the duties of His worship, private and public. Our business is to obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Besides the daily dependence we have upon God for present supplies, there are some seasons in which we shall most practical need the mercy and grace of God, and we should lay up prayers against such seasons; (1) time of temptation either by adversity or prosperity (2) in a dying time; every day we should put a petition for mercy in our last day
These are the spiritual blessings of the children of God.
