The world is filled with diverse cultures and societies and to truly understand you must

be able to listen to them in the ways they speak. Language is the key to unlocking the thoughts

and ideologies of someone as they would describe them. Translations can only be relied on to an

extent and therefore learning a new language could be desirable. Though the venture into a new

tongue can feel like a massive wave toppling one over, it can be manageable through timely

practice and appropriate learning methods.

Primarily, the desired language must be chosen and a motivational reason for learning

should be determined. This reason or goal will remind you why you want to learn because it will

feel hard almost all the time when learning. Once chosen, research is required to figure out what

resources will help you to reach your goal. Native speaking requires more cultural and casual

text to learn from while professional literature could be followed from a school textbook. Pick

your resources from your research and then get the tools needed to begin learning and practicing.

Basic needs include a notebook, pens, and notecards. Whether you are required to learn a new

alphabet or have the pleasure of learning with the Latin alphabet, writing is the key to

remembering words and grammatical structures.

After beginning the lesson plan and developing basic speaking and writing skills, begin to

reach out to a local native speaker or find a tutor online, a textbook can only provide so much.

Native speakers will help with more practical and natural ways of saying phrases that will

improve your understanding. Along with the language itself, you have opportunities to learn

about the culture where a language comes from which will also aid in building an understanding

of why phrases and grammatical patterns are the way that they are.

Once experience is gained, if available to you, visiting or living in the country that you

are wishing to learn the language of for an extended period of time will maximize your chances

of becoming fluent in the language. The constant immersion and development of linguistic skills

will be a push to the top capability you can achieve.
