Task focus: a) to explain the context and the key aims of your research, guiding a primarily non-expert
audience through the material; b) to ask and answer questions about your research and the research of
others.
Delivery focus: focusing on speed, pacing, and pausing along with volume and clarity of sounds – first
impressions. Ensuring your audience can hear what you are saying.

I liked the way you… // Using the signposting language helped me follow what you were saying // Your
analogy really helped me to understand ... //I could understand everything you said even though I didn’t
understand the science so well!
It would have helped me if you had…// I couldn’t follow your main points easily and got a little lost//I
found all the technical terms difficult to take in.// I still don’t understand...// I struggled to follow you
speaking at the pace you were speaking at.
