Part 2:

Interpret the dashboard and the story it is attempting to tell users by writing a 250-word summary that clearly
describes the merits of each of the charts on the dashboard. For example, discuss why a pie chart might be more
appropriate than a bar graph for highlighting the information you want key stakeholders to obtain by studying that
content on the dashboard. Include a specific discussion about why a specific chart is used to illustrate the data it
represents.

Answer:

Purpose of Analysis:

From the claims data provided, here we are trying to understand different patients’ behavior that can relate to them
in making claims. This will help us understand the chances of any patient making claim and take our future decisions
accordingly.

Analysis:

After analyzing the data, firstly we did patient segmentation into different age groups (21-30 years, 31-40 years, 41-
50 years, 51-60 years, 61-70 years) and then we took some key parameters which are having strong co-relation with
claims (like Emergency Room visits, procedures, claim amount).

Now looking at the dashboard, the first thing we can notice is the pie chart which shows the percentage of total
claim costs for each of the age groups. This means its showing which age group contributes how much percent of
total claims.

Since we needed to display relative proportions of multiple age-groups data and the size of the circle can be made
proportional to the total quantity it represents hence we used a pie chart to visualize this information.

This pie chart shows that maximum claims (i.e. 45.41%) are from the age-group 51-60 years, followed by age-group
61-70 years (i.e. 39.93%), and the least claims are from age-group 21-30 years (i.e.0.02%).

This is just a simple form of information, if we look at the key parameters we will find that based on the above
information we cannot say that people of higher age are making a high amount of claims.

Since all the key parameters are frequency-based data, which shows trends and displays relative numbers category-
wise hence we used a bar graph to visually represent that information.

Looking at the information we can clearly see that the highest number of claims from the age-group 51-60 years and
61-70 years, however, the average amount of claims is almost from the age-group 41-50 years which is having the
highest average amount of claim across all the age-groups.

The age-group 41-50 years is having more procedures done as compared to the age group 51-60 years and 61-70
years.

Conclusion:

We can implement this data analysis in two business categories:

1. Hospital to analyze patients

2. Health Insurance company for customer segmentation

For Hospitals, this analysis can help them understand customer behavior and prepare relative infrastructure and
availability of required medical equipment and staffing. Further analysis can be done to achieve different results.
For Health Insurance companies, this analysis can be used for customer segmentation as per claim ratio and amount
with regards to age group and procedures taken in the past. Which will help them to decide on new product
development, marketing strategies and calculate risk factors.
