Analogue and Digital

What are analogue and digital data?
Analogue Signals and Digital Data An analogue signal is one which has a value that varies smoothly.
Computers (and most other modern electronic devices such as cameras, mobile phones, etc.) are
‘digital’ devices because they process data in the form of numbers (digits). Everything stored and
processed inside a computer is a number (digital).

Explain how a digital signal is created

To create a digital signal, an analogue signal must be modulated with a control signal to produce it.
In digital radio schemes one or more carrier waves are amplitude, frequency or phase modulated by
the control signal to produce a digital signal suitable for transmission.

What is the importance of word length in computing?

Typically, an instruction is a word in length, but some architectures support halfword and
doubleword-length instructions. In general, the longer the architected word length, the more the
computer processor can do in a single operation.
