About Institute
Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School
of Mines) Dhanbad, formerly known as Indian
School of Mines, was inaugurated on th
December 1926, by Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy
of India. The institute was granted status of a
deemed to be university in 1967 under Section
3 of UGC Act, 1956. In 2016 the institute was
converted into an Indian Institute of Technology
after a bill to that effect was passed by Indian
parliament.
The institute was established to address need
for trained manpower for mining activities in
the country. Initially, the courses taught in the
institute were drawn from disciplines of Mining
and Applied Geology. Over the years, the
institute considerably expanded its activities.
The institute now offers graduate and post
graduate level programmes in several areas of
science, technology and management, IIT (ISM)
has substantially contributed to the industral
and economic development of the country
through its in-house state-of-the-art facilities
for advanced studies and research. In 2020 the
institute was ranked at 12th position by NIRF for
its engineering programme.

Department of Management Studies, formerlyknown as Department of industrial Engineering
and Management was established in 1977. The department has been offering an M. Tech
programme in Industrial Engineering and Management (IE&M) and PhD since 1977 and a
full-time course on Masters in Business Administration since 1997. The three programmes
are currently flagship programmes of the department, In past department has also been part
of dual degree programme in Mining, Mineral and Petroleum Management. Keeping pace
with the times, department launched MBA in Business Analytics programme in 2020
Department's rich history of more than four decades has seen it move from strength to
strength, continuously evolving and reinventing itself in tandem with changing business and
industrial environment of the country. Along with routine classroom lectures, students of the
department take active part in presentations, seminars, workshops etc. Students of MBA
and M. Tech (IEM) programme undergo compulsory internship at an organization for period
of six to eight weeks to gain hand on experience.
‘The department draws its faculty from some of the leading educational institutes of the country.
The faculty are actively engaged in consultancy assignments, in-house and off-campus
executive development programmes and research projects. Some of the organisations!
institutions that have supported faculty initiatives are AICTE, UGC, ICSSR, MHRD, DGMS,
CMPFO, NHPC, Power Grid, CIMFR, CIL and The World Bank.
The department has state of the art classrooms with latest audio visual facilities and well-
equipped laboratories like Systems Lab, Psychology Lab, Work Study Lab, and Business
Communication Lab. To facilitate classroom learning and research, department has
subscribed to leading databases like Bloomberg, CMIE Prowess etc. and advanced statistical
software like SPSS with AMOS module, STATA, MATLAB, R, Python etc.
The department has been constantly rated as A/A* institute by the various rating agencies
including AIMA-Business Standard, Business World, Business India and Outiook-Cfore. In
2020 the department was ranked at 29th position in NIRF ranking of MHRD.Masters in Business Administration
Department offers a full-time masters level programme in Business Administration. The

Process
Course Structure
MBA programme offered by the department comprises of fourteen core courses, eight elective
courses, a summer internship component and a thesis component. First two semesters of
the course are dedicated to core courses and practical sessions on communication. At the
end of second semester, students undergo summer training/intemship at an organization for
six weeks.
For second year of the course, students choose their specialization, based on which they
select from a wide variety of elective courses offered in third and fourth semester. Batch of
2019 — 2021 opted for specialization in following functional areas:
a) Financial Management
b) Marketing Management
Over the course of second year, students also work on a capstone project under guidance
of a faculty mentor. Report of the capstone project must be turned over before end of the
course and forms an important component of the programmeMBA

This is a platform for interaction between the students and the company
epresentatives, where infomation regarding profile of the company,
ey aspects of its business, work environment and opportunities are
made available to the students. This is followed by a question-answer
session. Companies are encouraged to contact Training and Placement
(T&:P) Cell for fixing a mutually suitable slot for pre-placement
interaction. Alternatively. companies can share information about
themselves with T&’P cell through e-mails if they are unable to visit _/
the department for an interaction. po

job Notification Form (JNF) which is provided to them by T&:P.

of interested students and any other information requested by the
company are collated by T&:P cell and shared with the company.

OFFERS AND ACCEPTANCE
;ompanies can make an offer to the student after the final interview.
he offer should include details of role, location, remuneration and other
relevant terms and conditions required by the candidate to make the
decision. The offer is communicated by the company to the Training and
Placement Cell which in turn is communicated to selected student(s).
Acceptance of an offer is governed by placement rules of the department
which are framed at the beginning of the academic year.Clubs And Committees
Training and Placement Cell (TPC): TPC acis as a bridge between the department and
organisations interested in providing placement and internship opportunities to the students.
The committee co-ordinates interaction and campus visits for organisations empaneled with
‘the department and continuously strives to contact and empanel new companies.
Media and Public Relation Cell (MPRC): MPRCcell communicatesmajor achievements
and events of the department to the world through various social media platforms. It also
shoulders public relations, event management, website development and management and
social media management activities of the department.
Alumni Committee: The committee acts as an interface between the department and its
alumni base. it maintains an updated database of the department alumni and organizes various
activities to connect with the alumni.
Quiziapa: Quiziapa is quizzing club of the insfitute, It strengthens quizzing culture at the
institute by organizing weekly events and honing teams for inter-college quizzing competitions,
Literary and Debating Club (LITC): LITC provides students with platform to participate
in debates, poetry, storytelling and standup comedy events and helps them strengthen their
literary and writing skills. Members of the clud have won several accolades at national and
intemational debating, literary and cultural events.
Chayanika Sangh: Chayanika Sangh is the hindi club of the institute. Members of the cub
leam how to create stories, develop layers in their poetry and perform their literary pieces in
‘ront of audience. The club has been providing support to budding hindi and urdu poets of the
campus for several years and has won prizes at several inter-college events,
Zero Hour Club: With activities such as Public Speaking, Group Discussions, Debates
and Knowledge sharing presentations, this dub helps students develop and improve their
interpersonal and soft skills
Consulting Club: To impart practical understandings of business problems and the possible
solutions to these, we have the "Consulting Club” where the students have extensive business
