“I’m too young to die.”

them, or “Are you really ready to die? I’m not!”
• Give reasons, “I don’t smoke. It’s bad for the health.” “I’m pro-
environment, Smoking makes the air dirty,”

painful’ or “My grandmother died from smoking. I don’t want that to
happen to me or you!
• Walk away if you can’t change your friends mind.
2. Family Responsibility. The family plays an important role in keeping away its
members from smoking and drinking intoxicating liquor. Most of the youth
addicted to cigarette come from broken families or lack parents’ care and
attention. It is therefore, a primary responsibility of the family to maintain a
harmonious relationship among members and to create a happy and peaceful
environment.
Parents should also give responsibility to their children according to their
capability coupled with proper guidance and supervision. This helps the youth to
be responsible in all their undertaking.
3. School Responsibility. Teachers are said to be the second parents while the
school is the second home. Therefore, the school should provide the needs of
every student as parents provide the needs of their children.

4. Community Responsibility. Civic and professional organizations in the
community should work cooperatively in providing alternatives to keep the youth
from smoking and drinking liquor. The community should help establish
wholesome activities like counselling and educating the youth about the ill effects
of smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages.
