Importance of art in the overall development of a child

Have you ever seen smooth cool fingers of child painting over a sheet of paper, pulling their
fingers through the paint making squiggles? Or observed a child making immense circles with
crayons? If yes, then you have seen the pleasure of exploring art on those faces. You have seen
creative art in making.
We instinctively know that art is important for the development of children, simply believing
it because we have seen our child deeply involved in art. But beyond what we believe, there is
much factual information on the importance of art in the development of children. Creating art
promotes the children’s visual and motor functions and improves their ability to interact with the
world around them, promoting the social development of the children. Not only does art help in
the development of the right side of the brain, but it also encourages the formation of neural
synapses. As art involves any or all of the senses, such as sounds, sight, smell and taste, child’s
neural synapse formation increases immensely with situations that immerse their senses. In
addition to helping in the development of important skills, free expression of feelings and views
is also good for the overall wellbeing of the child. It can be helpful in relieving stress and
working through things that are happening in their lives. Studies have shown that students who
study art are three times more likely to be recognized for their attendance and four times more
likely to be awarded for their academic achievements.
Art can become a vital mode of uninhibited self- expression and amazement of the child. It
matters the same way language does. It is a fundamental component of what makes us uniquely
human. Get your child learning and creating. All you will need is paintbrush and an open mind.
Art is smart!!
