Executive Summary

The purpose of this feasibility report was to address the problems of warehouse tracking
of employees working on respective machines they were assigned. To do the given
errand, we had various options that we might have gone for. Remembering the
financially savvy investigation of the undertaking we were limited to utilize one in
particular which was helpful for the organization. We had for this case, three choices
that could tackle our issue in regards to the following of laborers. The main strategy we
picked was LORAWAN following which was the most proficient of the three. The cost of
this choice was additionally the least when contrasted with the remainder of the two. In
this alternative, we utilized a little yet powerful reference point to send the signals to the
Bluetooth tracker LBT1. The data is then sent to our LORA IOT GATEWAY that is our
fundamental stockpiling where all data of laborers is put away. Also the second strategy
we selected was of RFID following. This technique is like LORAWAN following aside
from that the expense adequacy of this methodology was exceptionally low. The RFID
tag was costly. Consequently, we didn't picked this technique. The last strategy we
might have picked was the facial acknowledgment through various cameras. The
principle issue we confronted while considering this alternative was the ideal situation
wherein the camera would be mounted. The situation of camera as well as the quality
just as the cost of cameras drove us to think about our best option as the ideal answer
for this errand. This report will likewise give suggestions. The report will suggest the
principal arrangement as the most ideal decision. The second and the third
arrangement is the most un-decision we could pick.
Introduction

Tri-Pack Films Limited (the Company) was incorporated in Pakistan as a public limited
company on April 29, 1993 under the repealed Companies Ordinance, 1984 (the
Ordinance) and is listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. It is principally engaged in the
manufacturing and sale of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film and Cast
Polypropylene (CPP) film. Nasir Jamal, chief executive officer, requested a system for
his company’s warehouse to track the workers working on respective machines. This
report will include the economic, structural and operational feasibility of solutions for the
given task. The three solutions are as follows:
1) Install a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacons in connection with a transceiver
and a LoRaWAN gateway.
2) Execute indoor tracking using RFID technology.
3) Utilize Facial Recognition with the assistance of various Cameras.

The research of online journals and related material have resulted in useful
recommendations the company can implement.

Background

An on-site investigation of Teldon was conducted to include fingerprinting and drug

screen analysis of all employees of the company. Interviews with three employees
listed in the report gave the inspection team an insight and extent of the theft problem.
The drug screen analysis identified three employees, two that were involved with the
theft problem. One employee had access to various company keys and made copies of
the materials and tool shops. The other involved employee stole items from both shops
and sold them at scrap yards and pawnshops for cash that supported both employees’
drug habit. The other employee who tested positive for drug use was not involved in any
theft. Our investigation also revealed a lack of accountability in company administration
and quality assurance procedures.

Alternative Solutions

Solution # 1

The first solution is to install a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Beacons in connection with
a transceiver and a LoRaWAN gateway, at selected spots within the facility particularly
the working stations and rooms.

Economic Feasibility

The overall cost of the project will now be represented in detail. The cost of gateway
single unit that will be installed in the system is Rs 12000. The effective total per unit of
tracking device is approximately Rs 6200.

Structural Feasibility

The indoor tracking system will incorporate Bluetooth Low Energy(BLE) beacons, which
are to be places at various locations i.e. workstations and machines within the
warehouse, a transceiver fitted within the clothing of employees at TriPack Films. While
the LoRa gateway is to be placed at a monitoring room for live tracking and monitoring
of its employees.

What is LoRa?
LoRa stands for long range and low power data transfer method for IOT and
machine to machine communication. LoRa can be used to connect sensors,
gateways, machines, devices, and people(for monitoring and tracking) with IOT
and cloud. It is a modulated form of radio frequency devices with longer range
and less power consumption. Although capable of transferring very low quantity
of data, this technology is best suited for long range sensory devices.

Operational Feasibility

The proposed solution will provide excessive security and reliability for the company
regarding its employees. Bluetooth Low Energy devices are relatively new in industrial
and commercial market. LoRa based devices work within RF band ranging from
863MHz to 923MHZ. In our case this particular technology will be utilized in a way such
that all modules are interlinked with one another to detect and respond to signals at
runtime. Range of each beacon is almost 90m in open space but with the equipment
and machinery its range might drop to around 20-50m which is still more than enough
for our requirement.
Fig 2. Floor plan according to beacon placement.

Basic setup:
Radio transmitters called beacons are to be placed at certain locations on the
site, which will continuously emit a predefined ID number. That particular number
or code when detected in range by a transceiver fitted within the clothing of the
employee, will send that code to the transceiver, which in turn will send a signal
to the LoRa gateway that the particular person x is present in room A. Now that
data is sent then comes the LoRaWAN gateway that is an IOT device it links data
transferred over RF frequency band to the internet which then can be displayed
using GUI and stored for later use.

Solution # 2

The second solution is to execute indoor tracking using RFID technology. Which
includes RFID tags placed within or worn as ID cards.

Economic Feasibility

This solution consists of a long-range RF reader and RF cards. RF cards will be

attached to the costume of the workers. The long-range reader can be attached
somewhere in mid of the workplace such that, maximum circular area of the workplace
could be covered. A RF reader of 20m range will cost approximately Rs56000 and each
card will cost approximately Rs30.

Structural Feasibility

RFID is an acronym for “radio-frequency identification” and refers to a technology

whereby digital data encoded in RFID tags or smart labels (defined below) are captured
by a reader via radio waves. RFID is similar to barcoding in that data from a tag or label
are captured by a device that stores the data in a database. RFID, however, has several
advantages over systems that use barcode asset tracking software. The most notable is
that RFID tag data can be read outside the line-of-sight, whereas barcodes must be
aligned with an optical scanner.
This technology is suitable for indoor human tracking as it is extremely precise
and unaffected due to proximity overlapping of RF waves. We will be having multiple RF
transmitters placed at locations such as workstations and selected rooms that require
special access. Along with that active receivers will be utilized with employees to
provide a decent range of about 10-15m radius.

Operational Feasibility

RFID belongs to a group of technologies referred to as Automatic Identification

and Data Capture (AIDC). AIDC methods automatically identify objects, collect data
about them, and enter those data directly into computer systems with little or no human
intervention. RFID methods utilize radio waves to accomplish this. At a simple level,
RFID systems consist of three components: an RFID tag or smart label, an RFID
reader, and an antenna. RFID tags contain an integrated circuit and an antenna, which
are used to transmit data to the RFID reader (also called an interrogator). The reader
then converts the radio waves to a more usable form of data. Information collected from
the tags is then transferred through a communications interface to a host computer
system, where the data can be stored in a database and analyzed at a later time.
Our system will incorporate a same setup based on a reader, tag, and an
antenna to transmit the radio signal. The operational criteria are fairly simple the
receiver emits a wave of certain frequency. Which if reaches the tag, means person
carrying the receiver reads it being nearby and sends a signal to the microcontroller
attached triggering it to locate the tag carrier. Similarly, this system will work with the
closest RFID reader meaning the tag will be associated with the closest and strongest
frequency received by the tag.

Fig 4. Working principle of RFID module.

Solution # 3

The third arrangement is to utilize Facial Recognition with the assistance of various
Cameras mounted at various areas to have clear image of the staff.

Economic Feasibility

This solution consists of a data memory where all the images of workers will be stored
and a computer server which process the information from the cameras. The data base
of 1Tb will cost approximately Rs7000 and a computer server with adequate amount of
speed will cost approximately Rs25000.

Structural Feasibility

The Security cameras will be fixed to the highest point of the working machine in such a
situation as to have greatest inclusion and clear perspective on working staff.
The subsequent strategy to successfully distinguish the specialists is to join a QR code
on the coats given by the Company. The subsequent choice doesn't influence the
design in any capacity.

Operational Feasibility

This Solution won't need the stockroom to close. The Security framework can be
introduced while the stockroom is open and the staff working. The working of this
framework won't work until the framework power stream is cut from source.
The fundamental working of this framework is like surveillance cameras we use in our
everyday life. The lone distinction that will be noticed is here, we will utilize camera will
a few calculations to catch pictures of staff working inside the distribution center.

Recommendations

Solution # 1

This solution is the first recommendation as installing an indoor LoRa based BLE
devices will provide cheap and effective execution of the task at hand.

This is the most cost-effective solution costing around 7,000Rs per unit(beacon and
transceiver). Excluding gateway which will only be singular for a warehouse costing
12,000Rs. There’s not much to do in this technology which brings maintenance cost to
minimum. It is a onetime investment with batteries for beacons and transceivers can last
for up to 4 years.

We recommend the use of LoRa technology is as it possesses micro location

capabilities and is extremely precise. Easily locating the individual up to 1 – 2m
accuracy.

Solution # 3

The second recommendation is solution # 3. Which is tracking through image

processing with HD cameras that will read QR codes from the clothing of the
employees.

This would require the company to install high definition cameras onto the pathways
and workstations that will detect the QR code with a high processing camera along with
a computer that would easily provide the processing power needed and hence locate
through extensive image processing.

Though this method proves to be extremely affective but given its cost and
manufacturing cost it is less feasible for our application compared to previous method.

Solution # 2

The third recommendation is solution # 2, i.e. human tracking through RFID. As it

requires extremely high capital that is one id reader cost around 50,000Rs that covers
20m radius. Providing less accuracy than latter two methods it would detect any person
within its radius.

This method is most expensive of the three given choices of solution for our problem.

Conclusion

Need for keeping a track of employee movement within the production plant or any
company facility is increasing rapidly with now more and more companies looking for
smart ways to automate. We analyzed the practicality of such task according to the
needs of TriPack Films and reached a conclusion. Our research and study led us to a
conclusion to utilize LoRaWAN technology with BLE beacons. Considering all the
aspects and parameters this particular technology is best suited with close proximity
environment such as warehouse and manufacturing plants. Along with being safe,
easily integrable and effective.
