Guidelines for the Implementation of Additional Mathematics Project Work

Form 5
2016
( Teacher’s Edition )

1. Every student taking Additional Mathematics is required to carry out a project work in
form 5.

2. It is important that teachers move away from the traditional teaching and learning and
they are expected to spend some amount of time doing the following:
i. Organize and monitor students, so that everyone is not only working hard towards
completing the task but also working collaboratively and effectively with others;
ii. Encourage brainstorming of ideas in solving the tasks;
iii. Answer questions, offer suggestions and guide students whenever necessary but not
up to giving the answers directly;
iv. Assess and evaluate students’ process and progress along the way;
v. Guide and encourage students to do research, including how to use the resources
effectively.
vi. Keep students focused and interested on the task to be solved.

3. The question and the rubric are to be distributed to the students together with the
guidelines. Teachers need to discuss with their students regarding the guidelines and the
contents of the rubric.

4. Project work can be done in groups or individually but each student is expected to
submit an individual written report.

5. Provide enough time (3 weeks) for students to complete the task.

6. Certificates are awarded to students who hand in their written reports. Certificates
are awarded according to the grades below.
