“The Hidden Book”

“Well, it looks like you have decided to stay.” said she in a sinister
voice.

The flashing lightning stood there in front of the opened door, cracking
the edges the sky, lightening the dark, gloomy clouds that covered the
landscape. He stood in front of her, raising his left eyebrow.

“What is this nonsense all about?” he shouted. A deafening thunder

was heard, shaking the house from its foundations.

“Find the Hidden Book, and I will set you free.” she answered.

“Do you really think I don’t know where it is?” he said in an accusing
voice.

“Oh, I am sure you know.” she said dauntingly staring into his eyes.
“Okay, then.” He took a deep breath and pointed to the picture at the
left. “The book is behind that painting!”

Her heart sank. It was burning, but felt cold at the same time.
However, she didn’t show any sign of disappointment. “Show me
then.”

He started tiptoeing proudly towards the picture. Removed the frame

and pressed a hidden button in the wall. A small door opened, and as
he grabbed the small door handle, she could feel her heart pounding
from fear.

“What? I thought… I was sure it was here!!!” he screamed.

Breathing out in relief, a spine-chilling thought came to her mind. If

nobody removed the Hidden Book after she had put it there, why
wasn’t it there anymore?
