I. In unit 1 of this, Block. You read about different definitions of literature

as well as the features that make a work ‘literary’. Now, based on this,
attempt a definition of literature in your own words (do not simply
repeat what is in unit the Unit). What features would you look for in a
text to describe it ‘literary’? Explain your answer.

This question “what is literature” or “what can be designated as

literary” has been defined and redefined from the ages beyond. So an answer to
this question will only be an attempt to describe a concept that has multiple layered
answers. Through this answer one expects to understand the process of this
phenomenon that is determined by certain characteristics of what determines
certain text as literary or non-literary. A perfect definition till now has been
impossible as the word ‘literature’ is connected to various discourses -

II. Based on your answer to Q I above, explain whether or not you would
describe the following piece as ‘literary’, supporting your answer with
adequate illustrations from the text.
