There are two graphs about people’s average life satisfaction and what might make

them happiest. They clearly show that men and women are the same. However,

different things make them happy.

The trend in life satifaction is similar for men and women. However, it differs slightly

during the teenage years, when men’s score is 5.5, while women’s is 5.3. So between

the ages of 15 and 20, women are less satisfied with their lives. After this period, scores

fall gradually to their lowest point of 5.0 for everyone aged 41-50. They then rise

significantly to a peak of around 5.6 for those in the 61-70 age group.

Although 55% of the youngest age group say that money would make them happiest.

This figure falls as people get older, and by the age of 75, it is relatively low. On the

other hand, only 12% of the 15-24 age group worry about their health, but it becomes a

key concern as they get older. So the trends for these two features cross in middle age

and one is the opposite of the other.

Overall, it seems that people are most satisfied at the start and end of their lives. For

young people, happiness comes from money, while for older people it is linked to

health.
