The charts show the percentage of people in the United States who are happy, divided

into age groups, marital status and whether or not they have children.

According to the charts, 44% to 45% of married people in ages ranging from 18 to 29,

30 to 39 and 65 plus are happy, while slightly fewer (40%) of those in the 50 to 64 age

group are happy. In contrast, only 21% to 22% of unmarried people are happy in all age

groups, apart from those aged 65 and over. Here, there is a significant difference, with

34% of people being happy.

Having children appears to have little effect on happiness levels. The percentage of

happy married people with children under 18 is 44%, while it is 43% for those without

children and 41% for those with children over 18.

Overall, happiness levels in the US are below 50%. However married people tend to be

happier than unmarried people, whether or not they have children.
