Where I’m From

by: J.Y.

I am from acrobatic mats

With childhood teams
I am from houses made of cats
A town built from steam

I am from streets packed with commotion

Through the side streets of Broadway
I am from the bay part of the ocean
And a sticker filled hallway

I am from run-down sidewalks

And seeing familiar faces
I am from drawings made of chalk
Around the sketchiest places

I am from the glowing stars on the ceiling

To the pictures on the wall
I am from schools with cramped feelings
Along with streets just as small

I am from pizzeria dinners at night

With condos of strong demand
I am from the house where families reunite
Moving from concrete to grassland

I am from these places and memories

With my friends and family
It is this city that will be remembered for centuries
