Establishing a Presence on Facebook

Now, let's look at how you can establish a business presence on Facebook. On Facebook, busi-
nesses create a business page. A business page is where people can connect with the business or
brands to learn more about its products or services. From your business page, you can share up-
dates, engage with customers, accept orders, book appointments, and even post jobs to hire new
staff. By the end of this video, you'll know how to set up such a business page on Facebook. You'll
recognize the five components we discussed in our last video. To show you how a business page is
set up on Facebook, I'm going to use Calla & Ivy as an example. Remember, Calla & Ivy is a flower
business with a website where people can buy the handbound bouquets founder Imre is famous for.
To create a business page, you'll need to have a personal profile on Facebook. The first step is to lo-
gin to your personal profile, and then once logged in, look in the top right corner of your account
for a plus sign. When you hover over it, click Page. To get started, you will first have to fill out
some relevant information about your business. First, you choose a name for your page, Imre called
her page, Calla & Ivy. That's how people know her business. So it's a straightforward name. Next,
you have to select a category for your business. You should select the category that best represents
your business. In the case of Calla & Ivy, Imre selects Florist. Finally, you have to add a short de-
scription that tells people what it is you do. Imre wrote this, "At Calla & Ivy, we're passionate about
flowers. We create handbound bouquets with fresh seasonal flowers to spruce up any home. Our
roots are in Amsterdam, but you can enjoy our bouquets anywhere in the Netherlands." Now, we
have to add a profile picture, and as we saw, it's best to use your logo for that. So that's what Imre
did as well. For your Facebook business page, you can add a cover photo or a video. This image
will appear on the top of the page. Imre chose this close up of a flower bouquet. Then we can add
contact information. Imre decides to put the address of the store in Amsterdam, a phone number, as
well as the website. This way, people can easily connect with the business. Remember that in our
last video, we talked about how you can also add a call-to-action on your social media profile. Well,
on your Facebook business page, you can add a call-to-action button that will appear below your
cover photo. You can click the Edit button below the cover photo, and that's where you will find the
information for the call-to-action buttons. Imre added the Shop Now button to her page and she
linked it to the website, so that's where people will land when they click on this button. Once you've
finished setting up your Facebook business page, you can start posting right away. We'll talk about
what you can post in later videos. You could also invite current customers and fans to like and fol-
low your page. We'll go over a few tips on how to build a following later in the course. Now you
know how to create a Facebook business page. Quite easy, right? You can just follow along with
the prompts Facebook gives you, and you will end up with a business page that includes the five
key components: your name, a profile and cover photo, contact information, a description, and a
call-to-action. Given that Facebook is the largest social networking platform, there's a good chance
that it is right for your business. But in case you choose to build a presence on another platform,
you'll find that the process to set up a business account is very similar. In our next video, we'll look
at how it works on Instagram.
