1. NAVTEX Systems
■ Introduction to NAVTEX
NAVTEX is "Navigational Telex" abbreviation, is the use of direct-printing telegraph radio
transmission dedicated maritime business systems send and receive communications. With this
service, ships can be automatically received from a coast station broadcasting into information such
as search and rescue, navigational warnings, meteorological warnings, meteorological forecasts and
other urgent information, and maritime safety information. This business is on ocean voyages to
provide a convenient and effective way to automatically obtain maritime safety information.
NAVTEX is an integral part of the global navigational warning services (World-Wide Navigational
Warning Service, referred WWNWS). The global NAVTEX services and INMARSAT secure
communications network systems together form the GMDSS maritime safety information broadcast
system. NAVTEX information on the international and domestic generic frequency is 518kHz
frequency specified countries unified broadcast. NAVTEX receiver is one of the International
Convention on Maritime mandatory carriage equipment.
1, international NAVTEX system uses dedicated frequency is 518KHz, the use of narrow-band
direct-printing telegraphy (NBDP) FEC methods transmit type F1B, to coastal voyages broadcast
maritime safety information. ships Installed NAVTEX receiver automatically receives and print to
choose maritime safety information broadcast. NAVTEX systems is composition of the department
of land MSI, NAVTEX receiver and NAVTEX broadcast station.
2, domestic NAVTEX service refers in each country specified domestic frequency (one middle
frequency(MF)and 4209.5kHz frequency, broadcast and automatic reception of maritime safety
information on the national language of business).
FT-7600 receiver can receive NAVTEX broadcasts of English and Chinese information on 518KHz
(International Frequency) and 490kH, 486kH / 4209.5kHz (domestic frequency), respectively.

■ NAVTEX principle
IMO divided the world into 16 voyage areas, each navigation areas consists of a number stations
construct a transmitting station chain, coast station sets chain in each trade area Navigational Warnings
broadcast by radio telex, weather forecasts and emergency information . In order to ensure that the
system is in globalize.
The one hand provides for a single broadcast frequency of 518kHz as an international NAVTEX
frequency broadcasts the various security information written in English; the other hand, the unified
arrangements made within the time broadcast worldwide each shore station, to ensure coordination of
NAVTEX broadcasts, broadcasting time see below shore stations broadcast schedule.
Transmit power of each of coast station, there are strict provisions to prevent mutual interference
between the transmitting station. General coverage of a the shore sets at around 250-400 NM.
Usual NAVTEX receiver can receive information identifier (B1B2B3B4) to select and print the
information received, but some of security information, such as Navigational Warnings, Meteorology
warnings and SAR information and not refuse to accept, because they are very important to the safe
navigation of the ship.
According to [Diagram 1-1 NAVTEX system diagram], NAVTEX coordination department coverage
information content and various the shore station broadcasts the embodiment of coast station
information management and coordination, this could make NAVTEX receiver to receive only one or a
few of the shore station information.
2
■NAVTEX information format
1. Phasing Signal: for the transmitting station synchronization, time ≥10 seconds.
2. ZCZC: start character indicating the start receiving information.
3. B1 (A-Z): transmitting station identifier for identification of the transmitting station,
such as Fuzhou sets identification alphabet "O".
4. B2 (A-Z): type identifier information, see the specific [Table 1-1].
5. B3, B4 (00-99): message numbers, from 01-99 arrangement. 00 only for important
information, for example: SAR, as long as the No. 00 received any information will be
displayed or printed unconditionally, and permanently stored in the machine.
6. Message: information content of the message.
7. NNNN: end character represents the end of receiving information.
Note: The Information Type with "*", the receiver will not reject.

Antenna installation is very important, reasonable erected can reduce interference, so that
the best receiving distance, please note the following when installing:
1. The antenna should be erected in a vertical position, the horizontal plane should be as far
away from conductive objects, the minimum distance should be more than 0.5
meters ,Antenna not close to a large vertical the object, should be kept as possible 360 °
without block.
2.Antennas should be as far away from high-power transmission source, such as radar, radio
station or other radio antennas, preferably more than 3 meters left.
3. Antenna does not need to erected in high places. Antenna amplifier has a dedicated
ground line (black), should be connected with the hull.
4. Antenna cable should be away from power cables, cable cross 90 degrees should be kept
vertical.
5. RF antenna supplied RG58 cable, one end is connected to the antenna amplifier, the
