Statement of Purpose

SOP Guidelines:

Through your statement of purpose, the visa officer wants to understand about, how the
program that you have taken up in Canada, is adding value in your present career. The most
important aspect is the relevance of the program, in terms of value addition and progression
for your career prospects in India.

Below are the mentioned points that you need to cover in SOP. You can write one Paragraph
for each point.

1. Introduction: your strength areas, current role (academic or work wise), name of the
program that you are going for/college name and why taking up this program is
important at this stage of your career.
2. Academic Background : Complete detail right from 10th standard till last qualification.
You should include Year of passing, percentage and board/university you have done it
from.
3. Professional Background: Include every work experience you have had. You should
include time line (month/year for when you started and ended a particular job), Name
of the company, your designation and 1-2 lines on your role.
4. Why are you choosing Canada as your study destination?
5. Why the institution that you have chosen
6. Program Details (Add info on subjects, co-op/field exp if it’s a part/any other
highlight)
7. Career Goals: How are job prospects in India for your field, companies you would
like to work with in India.

Note: Keep it Simple, precise and try not to go more than 2 pages maximum. Make sure the
information added is accurate.
