You have purchased a fine instrument with many technological advances. In order to obtain the most enjoyment from your music system, locate the operating instructions for your radio in this booklet, and become familiar with all of its specific features. Turning Radio “On” For power to reach the radio, the ignition switch must be in either “ACCESSORY” or “ON” position, and radio turned on. Power Antenna Care To Clean (before lubricating) Mast: 1. Raise antenna to full height. 2. Dampen clean cloth with mineral spirits. 3. Wipe cloth over mast sections, removing any dirt. 4. Retract and extend antenna. 5. Repeat steps 1 thru 4 at least two more times. To Lubricate (after cleaning) Mast: 1. Raise antenna to full height. 2. Dampen clean cloth with light oil— GM9981712 or light sewing machine oil Note: Do not use silicone type oils. 3. Tape Door—Insert the cassette squarely through the tape door. This automatically switches the unit from radio to tape operation. Time-of-day will be displayed continuously. P. Stop-Eject Button—Press stop-eject button to eject tape. Press stop-eject button also to stop fast forward or reverse motion of tape Q. Tape Indicator Lights—These show which direction the tape is moving. When the left indicator is lit, the top side of the tape is playing. When the right indicator is lit, the bottom side of the tape is playing. B. Program (‘‘PRG”)—Press to select the other side of the cassette. R. &S, Forward/Reverse —These buttons advance or reverse tape motion. To fast forward, press the button next to the lighted indicator. To fast reverse, press the button next to the unlighted indicator. To stop the forward or reverse motion, press the stop-eject button. When end-of-tape is reached in one direction, the unit will automatically play in the opposite direction, and play the other side of the tape. When radio is turned off, internal pressure ‘on the tape is automatically released so no damage will occur when tape is left in. The “Stereo” indicator on the frequency display will be displayed when tuned to a station broadcasting in C-Quam® AM Stereo, provided it is being received with adequate signal strength in your locality. When the button is “‘out”’, all AM stations will be received in mono. M. Time or Station Frequency Display N. Stereo Indicator—Lights up whenever a station is broadcasting in AM or FM stereo. 0. 5-Band Graphic Equalizer—Allows you to adjust bass, midrange, and treble to suit personal taste. (The 60 and 250 controls denote bass; 1K denotes midrange; and 3.5K and 10K denote treble.) Move contro! up to increase that frequency range, or down to decrease that frequency range. A popular setting is shown (page 8). The 1K control is in center (detent) position with bass and treble increased. P. To listen to the present selection again, slide the Search control to the right and then press the reverse button. The tape will reverse to the beginning of the present selection. There must be at least three blank seconds between selections for the search function to work properly. W. Search Indicator Light—When the Search function (V) is activated, the ‘‘on’’ light will be lit. X. Chromium Dioxide Tape Button (“*Cr0.")— Allows equalization for metal or chromium tapes. To select 70 Msec equalization for chrome and metal tapes push CrO, button “‘in’’. To select 120 Msec equalization for iron tapes, leave the Cr, button in an “out” position. When end-of-tape is reached in one direction, the unit will automatically play in the opposite direction, and play the other side of the tape. When ignition is turned off, the tape is automatically ejected. Note: For best results, see page 2 for “Tape Player Care”. Power Button (“‘Pwr’’)—Press to turn radio on. Press again to turn radio off. B. Volume Buttons (‘‘Vol’’)—To increase volume, press and hold Vol button with the arrow pointing up (A). To decrease volume, press and hold Vol button with arrow pointing down (¥) The radio returns to a pre-programmed volume level when the radio or ignition is turned on. This programmed volume can also be returned to by pressing and holding both Vol buttons at the same time. C. Tune Buttons—To manually tune up the frequency band, press and hold the Tune button with the arrow pointing up (A). To manually tune down the frequency band, press and hold the Tune button with the arrow pointing down (¥). When the highest frequency is reached, the display will continue tuning, starting from the lowest frequency. The opposite is true when the lowest frequency is reached. D. AM-FM Bandswitch Button (““AM-FM")— Press to alternately select AM or FM band. £. Program-Recall Button (‘“‘PRG-RCL’’)— Press to recall station frequency when listening to the radio with the ignition on, or to display time-of-day with ignition off. Press to select the other side of the tape when the cassette is playing. F. Balance Buttons (‘‘Bal’’)—Adjusts the left/ right speaker balance. To adjust sound to the left, press and hold Bal button pointing to the left (<4) To adjust sound to the right, press and hold Bal button pointing to the right (>). To return balance to its center position, press and hold both Bal buttons at the same time Note: Above the balance buttons is a light indicating the balance level. G. Fade Buttons—Adjusts sound to the front and rear of the car. To return the fader to its center postion, press and hold both Fade buttons at the same time. Note: To the left of the fade buttons is a light indicating the fade level. . Loudness Button (‘‘Loud’)—Press button ‘in’ to boost bass frequencies when the radio is playing at low volume. J. AM Stereo Button (““AM-St")—Press button “in” to receive AM stereo. The ‘stereo indicator light (N) will be displayed when tuned to a station broadcasting in C-Quam® AM stereo, provided it is being received with adequate signal strength in your locality.
