Equality and Discrimination

Today I'm going to talk about Equality and Discrimination.

Equality is the absence of difference and discrimination is the act of segregating someone,
treating that person differently and partially, because of their race, gender, sexual orientation,
nationality, religion or social status.

Nowadays, people try to declare that “everyone is equal before the law, without distinction of
any kind”, so why talk about discrimination? – Unfortunately, discrimination is historical and
has always existed, being practiced by individuals, governments and society itself. However,
today, we observe that nations have a duty to reduce inequalities and contribute to social
inclusion. In other words, we always defend equality for all, because, after all, we are all equal
and we should always have the same duties and obligations, remembering that there are
several types of equality such as: gender equality, social equality and racial equality.

To conclude, a fair society is one that values differences and is enriched by them, promoting
equal rights, which does not mean serving everyone in the same way, but considering the
needs and singularities of each one, developing policies that meet the needs of different social
groups.
