Literature is a subject that has allowed me to think beyond what I can

read, to decipher the meanings of the author's words, and to comprehend the
message that they wish to impart. It taught me the value of literature in
understanding historical events and appreciating the sacrifices made by our
forefathers. It enables me to be creative and innovative, which helped me
develop my skills. It opened my eyes to see the beauty of our land and the
different cultures, beliefs, and traditions that some of our fellow Filipino have
followed up until now, things that don't matter to us may be very important
to others, which is why we must respect them. I also learned that knowledge
of the past is very important in this lifetime because it leads us along the
proper path and prevents us from repeating the mistakes that our forefathers
did, as well as explaining why things are the way they are now.
Furthermore, it also helped me improve my learning abilities, particularly
when we are asked to express our own perspectives on certain topics.
Different obstacles that the writers experienced, as well as the events and
struggles that the characters face, help me grasp different causes and points
of view that I may utilize in my own life. Because of my teacher and this
topic, I was able to appreciate the beauty in the literature that I had
previously missed; I see literature as a time machine that transports us to the
past and allows us to experience the gamut of emotions; it also allowed me to
experience being a part of the stories that I read and even if I can’t travel,
stories allowed me to go to may places through reading.
