COURSE(EVENING): ENTREPRENEURSHIP OF
THE SELF- CAREER PLANNING (ASSIGNMENT )
TOPIC: SUMMARY OF MENTORING
STUDENT PROGRAMME: GBSPLS
INTRUCTOR: DR. JEMIMA NUNOO
1) The most noticeable aspect of this session is the mentor-mentee connection, which

includes: (Honest communication, Trust, Respect, Exchange of knowledge and

celebration of achievements.) Mentoring's essential components include:

 Objectives and difficulties

 Compassionate interpersonal interaction

 Setting an example

 Inspiration and zeal.

2) Prior to this event, I had the impression that mentoring was just for individuals who

wanted to be famous. Second, I anticipated that the mentee would be disappointed if

he or she does not feel like they are receiving the direction they require.

3) For the past ten(10) years, Dr. Owusu Achiaw, a quiet and respected man in our

society and currently Rector of the Kumasi Technical University, has acted as my

mentor. I had the opportunity to work with him on voluntary as freelance personal in

his company. The opportunity he gave m thought me so many lessons which has

guided me in my life, and I since recognized and targeted him from afar. After several

engagements, he became my mentor, and he has aided me ever since. Dr. Owusu

(mentor) and (Elvis) mentee have mutual trust and respect, as well as open and honest

communication. So, Dr. Owusu never despise me, and I also listen to his suggestions,

which allows me to be more flexible in my mentoring path.

4) My confidence and problem-solving talents are the exact areas in my career where I

need a mentor. This is because it will help me improve my emotional health and help

me achieve my goals and objectives. Another advantage is that he has already walked

that path, therefore I will feel more at ease in my career. To top it all off, he'll tell me

the hard truth I need to hear, no matter how unpleasant the issue is. He once shared a

touching thought with me. He said,” Every often, we are presented with opportunities
to take up a new challenge that will help us develop ourselves. We begin to question

our value and wonder whether we deserve or belong or are even worthy of it There

are days we also do let fear get the better part of us because we do not want to enter

uncharted territories. Excuses rob us of many good things! So when an opportunity

arises for you to try something new or take up a new challenge, here’s a reminder

that’s okay to accept it so far as it aligns with your goals, and will help you grow”.

5) The main components of mentoring, are crucial characteristics I must create for the

selection of my mentor includes;

 Open Communication and Accessibility is encouraged.

 Goals and Challenges

 Knowledge exchange

 Mutual trust and respect

 Objectives and difficulties

 Self-reliance and cooperation.

 Passion and Aspirations

 Role Modeling

They are crucial because my mentor must be willing to share his or her knowledge and

talents. We must also increase our productivity and improve our time management. Finally, I

want to strike a work-life balance.

6) Yes, please. I was once perplexed by the fact that mentoring is not an indefinite

connection and that mentoring is a partnership that lasts for a pre-determined and

limited period of time.

7) it is critical for me to enhance my mentoring ideas and beliefs for the following

reasons:

 Your session showed me that mentoring requires a two-way agreement, mutual

respect, and a working partnership.

 Before contacting someone to be their mentor, one must research and examine them

(i.e., establish their own set of criteria).

 When a mentee believes he or she is not getting the coaching they need and wants to

withdraw, he or she must be tactical in dealing with challenges.

8) The experience I gained in this session will provide me with the opportunity to work

with a role model, since my mentor (Dr. Owusu Achiaw) is in a position to assist me

in reaching my all-time dream destination. The session prompted me to think about

and focus on my goals in life. I have my own interests at heart and must use all means

available to help me achieve them by arranging my life's agenda with a better level of

self-confidence in order to make changes if I feel I'm on the wrong track.

. This will assist me in the near future in being able to help others climb the ladder by serving

as a mentor to guard them, just as I have been mentored. This session has aided me in

evaluating a larger network by providing me with advise on a situation I'm encountering.

9) Yes, it links to previous courses I've taken with mentorship advantages such as being

supported and empowered in personal growth.

 Assistance in identifying and achieving professional objectives.

 Identify and address gaps in general knowledge and abilities.

 Increasing your self-assurance

You mentioned how a mentor may help you advance your career.

They admit your flaws, talk about challenging decisions, and meet new people.
It verifies that mentoring allows mentors to develop and build these abilities while also

receiving feedback from their mentees. They also gain leadership abilities, which are crucial

for their advancement.

Allows them to interact with colleagues from various departments. Improves their

interpersonal and listening abilities. (It is essential for any leader's success.) Mentors'

confidence is improved through reinforcing their expertise, developing new talents, and

working on leadership skills.

10) Among the ten skills that must be acquired are:

 Systematization and efficiency

 Must learn to manage time well and plan ahead of time for meetings.

 The most important talent I need to cultivate is resourcefulness.

 Trustworthiness

 Keep things in perspective and learn from your errors.

 Practice being conscientious and participating in activities.

 Be proactive; I need to bring up pertinent concerns with my mentor to address.
