What are the most central problems in your country concerning one of the

following: (a) air transportation, (b) railroads, (c) water transportation, (d)
highways, or (e) public transportation?

By 2050, it is estimated that the population of the Philippines will

continuously rise and increase by 60% and this will be a problem to the
country’s transportation system. According to the National Academy of
Science and Technology (2016) transport infrastructure development is in
slow progress due to underinvestment and lack of proper maintenance.
Most of the central problems in the country in terms of air
transportation is overlap of high passenger demand and high cargo
volumes at some airport facilities, specifically in Cebu, Clark, Davao and
IloIlo which causes conflicts resulting in delayed flights and congestion.
Railway system has attracted a high volume of commuters.Rail
transits are still not enough to sustain the high demand of commuters due
to lacking in maintenance, planning and quantity of trains.
Interisland water transport is a very important subsector of the
national transport system. Most problems of water transportation are port
congestion due to the slow unloading of cargo in the port terminal that
could result in obstructing the flow of passengers and other water vessels.
One of the most notable problems in highways in the country is the
poor conditions of the roads due to lax enforcement of the anti-truck
overloading regulations. Need to link roads to other modes of transport,
particularly improving roads to ports and airports.
Regular traffic congestion and not systematically organized public
transportation systems are most problems in public transportation that
cause long travel time for the commuters and economic loss.
