Answer:

Due to various technological breakthroughs in the future, humankind will be capable of

transforming transportation operated by drivers such as cars, buses, and trucks into autonomous
vehicles, and passengers will be the only people traveling inside them. From my perspective, the
benefits of this advancement outweigh its drawbacks.
On the one hand, there are some demerits of this development. First, it seems impossible for
technology to handle emergencies. Specifically, during producing process, the car's operating
system is not programmed to anticipate emergencies that can just be dealt with by drivers,
possibly resulting in unexpected accidents. For instance, a girl suddenly goes across the road to
pick up a ball while a driverless car is getting closer, which may lead to unforeseen tragedy.
Second, there is a likelihood of an autonomous car being hijacked by professional thieves. For
example, cyber-criminal can seize a car parked along the street via hacking its operating system.
Consequently, the criminal can manipulate an automated driving system of the car to commit
crimes, such as drug dealing.
On the other hand, despite the disadvantages mentioned above, I believe that this advancement is
of importance to society and human beings. On an individual scale, passengers can be assured of
safety when traveling by self-driving car. In detail, when a person is drunk, his autonomous car
can travel him home via a predefined map without either making accidents or being fined. On a
social scale, environmental problems can be tackled by applying automation to all vehicles. By
definition, driverless vehicles are electrical means of transport, which do not release exhaust
fumes compared to manual vehicles using fuels, leading to a remarkable reduction in the amount
of emission into the environment.
In conclusion, I am convinced that while this technology innovation has numerous adversities,
they are eclipsed by the more significant positive aspects.
