Often gets up from seat when remaining in seatis expected. 3. Often runs about or climbs when and where it is not appropriate (adolescents or adults may feel very restless). Often has trouble playing or enjoying leisure activities quietly. 5. __ Isoften “onthe go" oroften acts as if “driven by amotor". 6. Oftentalks excessively. Impulsivity 1. Oftenblurts out answers before questions have been finished. 2. Often has trouble waiting one's tum. 3. Often interrupts or intrudes on others (¢.g., butts into conversations or games). On the basis of above views and symptoms following objectives were formulated; 1. Construction of ADHD scale including three categories- Inattention Hyperactivity, Impulsivity 2. Construction of Scale on the Indian sample. Method Sample 60 parents of ADHD children from Jodhpur city were taken & their child's age was ranged from 3-15 years. Each child was a regular student of special school at least from last 2 years. These children were diagnosed by the psychiatry department as well as by the educators, on the basis of child symptoms & interview wit any major associative conditions. Procedure On the basis of above symptoms, 62 items which depicted the characteristics of ADHD children were taken. At item selection care is taken that all the three categories should covered equally. It was sent to the experts for their opinion. Obtained responses were analyzed on the correlations among themselves, out of them one item is selec rest items were droppe: into Hindi language, to make it easier for the parents. Four items ity. The scoring pattern which was Never (0), Sometimes (1), Always (2). After a period of 8 months the test was re- administered on these parents to find outtest-retest reliability. Item Analysis In the process of construction of ADHDs items which were highly intra-correlated eliminated by selecting one of them. Original item number 3, 12, 17,24, 28, 34, 36 & 42 have been dropped as a result. ofpperfect/ high correlation. Internal consistency was judged by method ofreliability for 48 selected items. The retained items are, at best expression of the original sense (DSM-IV) as applicableto the Indian sample and context appropriately. The main objective of the scale was to measure and describes the characteristics of the ADHD child. The scale has three subscales which reflect a conceptualization of relationship among three categories: - inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity. A short description of these * f jy three categories is given above. Test administration Report should be established with the parents before the actual administration of scale, Aims & objectives of scales were disclosed to them Individual administration of the test was done at their home. Instructions as given in the booklet were followed total that each parent adopted with resp; answer —sheet has to be scored with the help of scoring procedure given above. The total score of each sub- scales has to be obtained by adding scores on its respective items. Add the scores of all sub-scales to arrive attotal score of the scale. Scoring Scoring was done for all the three categories viz. never (0), sometimes (1), often (2). The maximum score is 112. Itrequires significant & positive correlation with existing tests. Norms Based on the representative sample provided the required framework on which an individual's score are interpreted. Norms are the objective characteristic quantitative standard of the sample in comparison to which the scores of given individuals are explained and interpreted, Here norms are provided for each category for ADHD wiz- inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity. These norms assume Average to
