Geographic location-

It a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the
northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. There are
333 million residents across its 50 states. Therefore to understand the American model of
people management in cross culture is very much difficult.

They are very much rich in cultural diversity. This alongside a hardworking, dedicated and
well educated workforce- position it well as a location in which businesses of any size can
thrive.

To understand the working culture of these place we have choose 3 categories of cities i.e.-

Small cities like Carson city, NV

Midsize cities like St. George, UT

Big cities like New York

Carson city, NV- it is a capital of Nevada since the state was established in 1864. It has the
highest rate of new job creation in the country, Carson city had 4.61 new businesses started
per 1000 residents.

Their main cultural diversity is Race & Ethnicity. There are 82.00% white, Other race:8.39%
Asian: 2.67% and more races: 2.56%. Other problems they are facing like-

 organizational implicit bias

 multicultural coaching for leaders

despite of the people are almost happy with that culture. Peoples reviews –

St. George, UT –it is a midsize city. It had a new business creation rate 3.83 new business
created per 1000 populations. The culture of this place is “preached” that it interested in
creating a positive and efficient work place fuelled by teamwork and excellence.
New York- New York is a super competitive city but also a leader in several sectors and
therefore New Yorker are workaholic. They are loaded with diplomas and do not know the
35hours/week, lunch breaks are rarely last more than 45 minutes and sometimes are taken
right in front of the work station.

It is worth nothing that the corporate culture in New York is designed to make people want
to work and invest in themselves.

The employer and employee relationship is rather relaxed and less formal than in many
European countries. Same goes for the relationship between colleagues.

However, despite the relaxed side of work relationships, there are things to not joke about.
These include harassment, sexual or normal, which can lead to a suspension. Training
programmes exist to prevent these types of behaviours from occurring at the work place.
Moreover in New York state, every employer is legally bound to provide this kind of training
to their employees at least once in a year.

Major industrial issues-

Some of the major industrial problems faced by American people are-

 The growing skills shortage- American manufacturers are now facing a severe
obstacle to meet their business objectives: a loss of skilled labour. As older, more
experienced generation workers continue to leave the workforce, there aren’t
enough new recruits among generation x to replace them.
 Foreign trade- American manufacturers have had stiff competition from foreign
companies that could produce the same product as them, but for far less.
 The need for more precision and efficiency- manufacturer are under increasing
pressure to get more done faster with less resources, and to meet ever- stickers
standards while doing so. This demand for speed, precisions and efficacy can be
overwhelming foe some manufacturers.

On the other hand they are also facing various kinds of strikes.

The popular American based company Walmart –

In 2012, they went on strike like multi-store walk-out across the country. Thousands of
workers took to the picket line to protest the wages, benefits and treatment of employees
at the world’s largest retailer. They organized 1000 protests in 46 states across the country,
where many strikers were arrested in California. Walmart considered it as their black day.
