To Whom It May Concern:

It is my pleasure to provide this letter of reference for Jennifer Kitchen for the Sign Language Interpreter
position for Lane Education School District. I was one of Jennifer’s mentors this spring and have had the
pleasure of getting to know her both personally and professionally. This semester we teamed the
mornings together in a fifth grade classroom, as well as other situations as they presented themselves.
It has been a great experience for me to watch her grow in her career. I think that Jennifer has many
skills to offer the Lane Education School District in the role of a Sign Language Interpreter.

As an intern this spring, Jennifer took full advantage of everything that the program had to offer her.
She observed numerous interpreters at the elementary and high school levels. She worked alongside
me at the elementary level in a variety of situations including physical education, music, the learning
center, the outdoor school program, a fieldtrip to visit the middle school, assemblies and other
impromptu opportunities. Jennifer also attended an IEP meeting via zoom to observe and take notes on
the process. Through these assignments and working with her mentors, I have seen a improvement in
the areas of interpreting English-ASL, her actively processing information and lag time.

This spring I have truly enjoyed working with Jennifer. In assignments she is attentive and is able to feed
information when necessary. She stays engaged the entire time and has proven herself to be a
supportive team. She carries herself as a professional and represented our interpreting staff well.

I believe that Jennifer would be a great addition to the LESD interpreting staff because she is
enthusiastic about her work, comes to work early, works late and is eager to improve. As an intern, she
has proven herself to be someone who cares about the work that she does and about the people that
she works with. I believe, if given the chance, she would continue to be a valuable member of the LESD
interpreting team.

Sincerely,

Karen Orser
