Instructions for Writing Letter of Recommendation for SUMMIT program

Dr. Faculty member,

The SUMMIT (Summer Undergraduate Minority Mentoring and Internship Training) program’s
goal is to mentor minority and underrepresented groups in the Plant Sciences. In the NSF-
funded SUMMIT program, student participants will be partnered and mentored by Ph.D.
researchers. We look forward to assisting the participant in developing as a scientist and as a
member of the scientific community through their future employment in the sciences or
advanced graduate studies.
To help us select students that will benefit from this experience, we ask you consider their
interactions as a team and individual, maturity level, dedication to their commitment, and how
this experience will benefit their development as a scientist. We also appreciate your insights
into their strengths, and areas of needed improvement.
