What are the benefits of part-time employment to a business
organization or company?
A part-time employment is one in which employees are required to work
less hours than would be deemed full-time by their employer. Employees may work no more than 35 hours each week. Students, parents, retirees, and other workers who do not want or require the time commitment of a full-time position are part-time workers.
Employing part-time workers has a number of potential business
benefits, including: keeping costs down in areas where you don't yet require full-time coverage; increasing recruitment and retention of staff by providing family-friendly working practices; demonstrating to potential clients and customers that you value having a diverse workforce and ethical employment practices; and allowing you to bring in highly skilled and experienced staff members even when you don't require full-time coverage; Part-time work attracts parents with younger children and elderly persons who may not wish to work full-time but may provide a multitude of skills, experience, and expertise; increasing your business's ability to respond to change and peaks in demand - for example, by using part-time workers in the evenings or on weekends, you can use more workers at peak times and extend your operating hours; helping to reduce the workloads of other workers, eg when you don't have enough work for a new full-time position but are regularly using overtime to meet demands - this can reduce overtime costs and help prevent the negative effects of stress.
Because they work less, part-time employees, particularly those who
work more briefly or seasonally, have less expertise and familiarity with the organization. This may have an impact on employee task and service performance. Part-time employees may not become as familiar with techniques to selling and serving the demands of the company's clients, therefore customer-driven firms may observe less successful sales and service. These problems can be mitigated by training. Part-time employees, on the other hand, may take longer to obtain experience than full-time employees.
