Background

 Many customers contact us with queries on loading conditions and use of specified
forces in Sima. In most cases, they need to be explained from HydroD, not just
Sima. In the document, an example problem is given and a consistent setting for
loading conditions and specified force is described.

 The document describes with focus on the followings:

– Loading condition
– Mass model
– Specified force

 Relevant operations can be lowering, lifting, floatover, mooring, etc.

Description of problem

 Problem: A load of 50 tons will be loaded on the stern part of a barge of 100 tons.

 The barge at unloading condition and the load are shown below:
– The barge: 100 ton

– Load: 50 ton

– The target loaded condition will be like below.

HydroD(Wadam) loading condition

 Loading condition
– The same as the target loading condition

 Mass matrix
– Includes the load as well as the barge
– Total mass is 150 tons

Sima(Simo) loading condition

 Barge
– Created by importing the Wadam results
– Mass is 150 tons
– Initial loading is the same as that defined in HydroD

 Load
– Should be modelled as another body of 50 tons

 Loaded model
– The imported barge is 150 tons and initially trimmed. 50 t

Placing the load will increase the trim.

50 t
– A specified force(red arrow) of 50 tons should be
employed to compensate the weight of the load
